Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the club situated?
All of the property is one contiguous area. The area is located in Washington County, GA. The nearest town is Sandersville (approximate pop. 15,000), the property is situated north of Sparta-Davisboro road; south of the Ogeechee River; west of GA Hwy 88 and east of GA Hwy 102.
What about camping?
For liability reasons, the owners do not allow camping on the property. However, there are several sites within a few minutes’ drive that offer campsites for rent. They include Hamburg State Park and private sites. If camping is an issue, discuss this with the club president and he will help you work out a solution. In most cases, groups of members have made arrangements with friends to purchase a few acres in the nearby area and set up their own camping area. This has worked well in the past.
Where do club members meet and how do I know where other members are hunting?
There is an old residence centrally located on the property that we refer to as the "the clubhouse". This serves as our meeting place. A sign in roster is maintained at the clubhouse. Each member is required to sign in and out when he is hunting or scouting. This allows other members to know where everyone is.
This is such a large area. How will I know which areas are open to hunt?
A good member will clearly mark the area he hunts according to club rules to avoid confusion. This means signs are posted on all access roads. Some club officers & members have a good knowledge of who hunts where. Pre-season scouting is a must. Part of the fun is scouting and getting to know the property.
What is the deer population on the property?
The most knowledgeable hunters agree that population is about 20 deer/square mile. We have approximately 18.75 square miles of property. About 400 deer are expected to be on the property at the beginning of each season.
What is the percentages of hardwoods on the property?
Most hardwoods are located along the streams as this property is intensively managed for pine timber production. My guess is about 20% hardwoods and 80% pine trees in various stages from freshly planted to 30+ years old. Timber is continuously being harvested and planted each year.
